LCM Press Publishes Reprint of Gil Hinshaw's Lea History Book

Peter Mladnic's New Poetry Book

The Lea County Museum Press has released a reprint of the most important and comprehensive history book on Lea County, a book first published in 1976, "Lea, New Mexico's Last Frontier",has been reprinted with a new cover and an additional preface to go with the book that is otherwise just like the original work, including many historic photographs, maps and a complete index.

This is the 12th book published by the LCM which issues works related to the history, folklore, and cultural heritage of the county.

Gil Hinshaw's "Lea, New Mexico's Last Frontier" has been reprinted with a new cover and an additional preface to go with the book that is otherwise just like the original work, including many historic photographs, maps, and a complete index.

"This is not only a valuable book," says LCM Press Director Pete Mladinic, "it's also essential for anyone who truly wants to know the Lea County story.

Over the last few years, as interest in Lea history has increased, says Mladinic, more and more people have wanted copies of the book, and they have just not been available to find one. Now they can.

Like the first book, the LCM edition is paperback, but with a strong binding that will make the book reliable read for many years.

"Lea, New Mexico's Last Frontier" is a reliable book in another sense of the word. Hinshaw did exhaustive and thorough research when he was working on the publication, and he produced the one work that gives an accurate account of Lea's prehistoric and historic past.

The book is on sale for $20 at the Lea County Museum Bookstore located in the old Commercial Hotel, 103 S. Love Street, across from the courthouse in Lovington. Call the museum at 575-396-4805.

Other available books published by the LCM include "The Light Side of Little Texas" by U.D. Black, "Ethnic Lea: Stories from Southeast New Mexico" and "Lovington: Survivor on the High Plains" also by Lea historian Gil Hinshaw. All of these and the other LCM published books are available at the museum book store and on Amazon.com.
